Merrick, N. Merrick students bound into a new school year

The Merrick School District opened its doors to students for the start of the 2017-18 school year on Sept. 5. Despite a few tears and opening day jitters expressed by some kindergartners, teachers were mostly greeted with smiling faces as students entered Birch, Chatterton and Levy Lakeside elementary schools eager to meet their new teachers and get started.

Meanwhile, the heat and humidity of the opening day did not dampen the excitement of North Merrick students as they began their school year.

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Cynthia Seniuk and the Central Office administrators began the day in one of the three schools to greet students, parents, and even grandparents!

“The smiles on their faces and sparkle in their eyes sum up the energy of the day,” Seniuk said. “Opening day went smoothly — just another great day in the North Merrick schools!”
