North Bellmore man arrested for leaving scene after police say he hit motorcycle cop

A North Bellmore man has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident after he allegedly struck a Nassau County police officer on routine motorcycle patrol. The suspect, police said, was driving on July 6 around 8:30 a.m. in his Subaru westbound at Bellmore and Alice avenues in North Bellmore at the time of the crash.

Hussam Rajab, 40, of Bellmore Road, was charged on July 6 with leaving the scene of an auto accident with a serious physical injury, police said. He was arrested shortly after the collision.

The officer, who was not identified by police, was rushed to an area hospital, where he was listed in critical but stable condition.

Rajab was to be arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on July 7. His attorney’s information was not available at press time.
