Plumbing work causes Valley Stream house fire

The Valley Stream Fire Department rushed to an E. Fairview Avenue house fire at around 11 a.m. on Nov. 26 that had reportedly sparked when a plumber was in the process of soldering pipes in the home, according to Fire Chief Jason Croak.

The blaze was extinguished within 20 minutes, he said. The Elmont, Lynbrook and Malverne fire departments had been called to assist.

Croak said that while the plumber had been soldering pipes on the first floor of the building, a heat buildup caused parts of the home’s insulation to catch fire. The blaze had spread to the second floor by the time firefighters had arrived on the scene.

No injuries were reported, although there was damage to the home’s bathroom and adjacent rooms, Croak reported.
