PSEG L.I. Peninsula reconstruction to last through January

Work has commenced to replace a high-voltage electrical tower on Peninsula Boulevard that had been hit by a car in 2017, and which had been propped up with wooden utility poles afterward.

The construction began on Nov. 26 and is expected to last through January, with crews scheduled to work weeknights from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., and a detour routed through Dubois Avenue.

The tower will be replaced with two steel poles to permanently hold the transmission wires.

Mayor Ed Fare said PSEG Long Island, which is undertaking the project, has been working with the village Engineering Department, and that he had requested the utility to rotate the detour route through different streets to no avail.

“You’ve got to vary the burden,” he said. “Why should Dubois get all of the truck traffic?”

He added that some residents on the block were irate, but that many had not noticed much of a difference.
