Valley Stream Sea Rangers receive awards

Sea Rangers from Valley Stream showed off their drills and received awards at the group’s Awards Night on June 16 at the Wheeler Avenue School.

There, the junior and senior drill teams marched into the gymnasium and performed drill competitions. They then received awards from various local groups, including the Elks Club, and Chief Petty Officer Eric Hernandez and Master Chief Petty Officer Christina Ng-Leyba won the coveted Ranger of the Year award.

The Sea Rangers is a naval cadet program founded in 1954. Its members learn to follow military commands, and they compete in competitions and go on trips at least once a year. The Valley Stream chapter is one of the last remaining ones in Nassau County.
