Student art on display at Sip This

For the third consecutive year, students from all four Valley Stream school districts will have their artwork on display at Sip This throughout the month of March.

The café will feature District 13’s artwork during the first week of March, work from District 24 during the second week, work from students in District 30 during the third week and work from the Central High School District in the final week of March. “It works out because we have four districts and four weeks,” said Tony Spezio, who came up with the idea for the art show three years ago.

At the time, he said, it seemed as though people did not know what the students were accomplishing at the various Valley Stream schools, “so I decided to showcase the talents of our children.” So, he spoke to Sip This owner David Sabatino, who agreed that it would be a good idea.

“We value connecting to our community,” Sabatino said in a statement, “and displaying the artwork of students is a simple and special way to do that.”

Spezio then reached out to the superintendents at all four school districts and asked them if they would be interested in participating in the art show. They all agreed, and each district’s administrators were able to choose the work they would like to display.
