Valley Streamer arrested for assault

Police reported that a Valley Stream man was arrested for striking two victims with a glass bottle and a sharp object on July 28 at 12:15 a.m.

According to the Nassau County Police Department, an unknown victim got into a verbal altercation with Jose Alvarez, a 54-year-old Valley Stream resident, inside of La Perla De Oriente Restaurente, during which Alvarez allegedly struck the victim with a glass bottle. Both Alvarez and the victim were then asked to leave, but outside the restaurant Alvarez continued to argue and allegedly struck a 33-year-old male victim with a sharp object, causing a laceration in his ear. Alvarez also allegedly struck a second victim, a 36-year-old male, causing a laceration on his cheek. He then left the scene in a 2010 Nissan, but was located a short time later and was placed under arrest, police said.

The two victims were transported to local hospitals for treatment.

Alvarez is charged with two counts of second-degree assault and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He was scheduled to be arraigned on July 28 at the First District Court in Hempstead.
