Young Rockville Centre artists inspired by Dagger DogVinci

Dagger DogVinci, a canine known for his works of art, visited the Rockville Centre Public Library on April 22. Children on break from school watched in amazement as the black Labrador, golden retriever mix expressed himself with a paint brush.

After learning about Dagger’s life, the children then began creating art themselves with his style in mind.

Dagger was born in Santa Rosa, Calif., and was learning to be an assistance dog for Canine Companions for Independence. He was released from the program due to some fears he had, but was later adopted by fine artist Yvonne Dagger, who one day put a brush in his mouth.

Since 2016, Dagger DogVinci has sold more than 500 paintings, with proceeds of all sales going to various animal- and people-related causes. He has raised more than $100,000.

In addition to his artistic ability, Dagger is a certified therapy dog for Therapy Dogs International. He visits nursing homes, libraries and schools, bringing love and comfort to everyone he meets.
