It is unknown if anyone will recite the movie line, ”you’re killing me, Smalls,” but former Major League Baseball player Daniel Murphy — a Mets playoff hero — said he is just looking for a sandlot to play in. The 2015 postseason record breaker is part of the 2023 Long Island Ducks, the team’s 23rd season.

Late Sunday night and early Monday morning, my sons Joseph, 17, and Michael, 12, and I stayed late at Citi Field, watching our Mets lose the World Series. We’re all bummed.

That catchy “Let’s Go Mets” chant is rarely heard this late in October. With the Mets making their first World Series in 15 years, local fans are ecstatic, and hoping for the team’s first championship since 1986.
