Bowling against cancer

Posted

Rose-Marie Snyder’s grandfather died in 2005 when she was seven years old, but she continues to honor his memory.

Snyder will host the third annual “Bowl for a Cure” on April 18 at Wantagh Lanes. The MacArthur High School student is raising money to fight against prostate cancer. Thus far, she’s raised more than $3,000 for the cause.

“I had the idea and I made the plan to do it,” Snyder said. “It just kind of took off.”

“It brings tears to my eyes,” Regina Snyder, Rose-Marie’s mother, said. “To see her passion for cancer research is incredible.”

The fundraiser runs from 7-9 p.m. For just $15, you receive shoes and two hours of bowling, and it all goes to support prostate cancer research.

According to the American Cancer Society, prostate cancer is the second-leading cause of cancer death in American men; only lung cancer is more deadly.

“It’s very important,” Rose-Marie Snyder said. “I don’t want other families to feel what I felt.”
