Budgets pass in Wantagh, Seaford, Levittown

Voters in the Wantagh, Seaford and Levittown school districts responded favorably to budget proposals on Tuesday night.

In the Wantagh School District, voters overwhelmingly approved a $76.2 million budget that decreases taxes and increases programs. The district reported 1,937 people voting in favor of the budget, to 390 against it.

Peter Mountanos and Kera McLoughlin were re-elected to the Board of Education. Mountanos received 1,708 votes with 1,675 for McLoughlin. Former board member Jean Quinn received 894 votes.

Seaford's proposed $65.3 million budget passed 1,197 to 432. Bruce Kahn and Janice Baldwin ran unopposed for seats on the Board of Education.

In Levittown, which serves portions of Wantagh and Seaford, the $205.4 million budget passed with 1,961

"yes" votes to 719 "no" votes.

A second proposition, to use $4 million from an existing Capital Reserve Fund for various building repairs, passed 1,924 to 696.

Peggy Marenghi and James Moran were re-elected to the Board of Education, and Christina Lang was newly elected. Marenghi, with 1,522 votes, and Lang, with 1,470, were the top vote-getters and won three-year terms. Moran, who finished third with 1,430 votes, will remain on the board filling the unexpired term of Kevin Regan.

The other candidates were former trustee Ed Powers who received 956 votes, James Lonergan with 770 votes and Maria Marciano-Xenius with 570 votes.
