Car burns on Beech Street

Posted

The Wantagh Fire Department responded to a car fire at 2165 Beech St. on Nov. 19 shortly after 5 p.m. Wantagh’s Engines 693 and 691 were first on scene.

As the crew from Engine 693 was attempting to extinguish the fire in the dark-colored Chevrolet Traverse SUV, a gas line in the car ruptured, which fed the intensity of the fire. Firefighters from Engine 695 then established a foam line to attack the flames. Chief James Bloomfield was in charge of fire operations.

No injuries were reported. Because of the use of the foam, the scene appeared to have a snowy winter like setting after the fire was out.

It appears that the car fire was probably caused by the heat of the car, which had just been driven, parking over the pile of leaves in front of the home.
