Women's History Month

Court to honor the Women of Wantagh

Posted

March is Women’s History month and it is befitting for Miss Wantagh and her Court to recognize and honor exceptional women of the town in the aptly named Women of Wantagh program. This Miss Wantagh Court is seeking nominations of women who, through their efforts, have made the community better and women who may not have been recognized in the past.

“Recognizing the lives of the women of our town is very important to us, because they serve as strong role models who have demonstrated what can be accomplished,” said reigning Miss Wantagh Kayla Knight. “We have been very fortunate to live in Wantagh and have had the opportunity to be recognized for making our mark in the community, but we now want to thank those who have done their parts, too.

The Miss Wantagh Court is asking community members to submit letters of recommendation for women they believe should be recognized during Woman’s History Month. Knight and her runners-up will read and review each of the nominations submitted. An awards ceremony honoring the nominees selected is being planned for Monday, March 30 at 7 p.m. at Wantagh Elementary school.

The letters should include the person’s name and the reason for their nomination. Submissions can be sent by email to misswantagh@optonline.net, or by mail to Miss Wantagh, c/o Ella Stevens, 2415 Bayview Ave., Wantagh, NY 11793.

“Although women are being honored throughout the town and county during this month,” Knight said, “this will be the first time that Wantagh will be honoring its own and as Miss Wantagh, I am thrilled to be able to not only celebrate the women of Wantagh but to show how much we appreciate them.”

The deadline for nominations is March 16.
