The Long Island Ducks defeated the Camden Riversharks 15-8 on June 17 in the opener of a four-game series at Campbell’s Field. With the win, the Ducks earned their 1,000th regular-season victory in franchise history, becoming the third team in Atlantic League baseball history to reach the milestone.

Long Island jumped out to an early 6-0 lead with four runs in the second inning and two in the third off of Camden starter Jay Voss. A bases loaded walk to Jan Vazquez, a two-run single by Dan Lyons, a sacrifice fly to left off the bat of Fehlandt Lentini and RBI singles from Jon Myers and Vazquez highlighted the scoring.

Ryan Strieby’s solo homer and Paddy Matera’s RBI single off Ducks starter John Brownell in the third trimmed the lead to four. However, another four-spot in the fourth put the Ducks on top 10-3. A two-run double by Lew Ford and a two-run triple by Adam Bailey did the damage. Randy Ruiz’s three-run homer to left in the fifth ballooned the lead to 10.

Camden scored twice more in the sixth, but a RBI double by Brendan Harris and a run-scoring single from Lentini rounded out the scoring for the Flock. A two-run homer by Bryan Pounds in the ninth closed the gap to 15-8. However, the ‘Sharks would get no closer.

Brownell (6-3) picked up the win, tossing six innings, allowing five runs on 11 hits while striking out four. Voss (1-3) suffered the loss, surrendering six runs on five hits and five walks in two and one-third innings.

Eight of the nine Ducks batters earned a hit, and seven had multiple hits. Six batters scored and drove in at least one run. Ruiz and Lentini led the Flock with three hits apiece, and Ruiz set the pace with three RBI and three runs scored.
