SEAFORD: Fagan, Stark for Seaford school board

Posted

With two seats up for grabs on the Seaford Board of Education in Tuesday’s election, incumbent Brian Fagan is running against Stacie Stark and Patrick Martz.

Experience is on Fagan’s side. He has been board president for four years, and he was a member of the budget advisory committee before that. During his time on the board, his accomplishments include the recent reconstruction of the Career Development Room for special-needs students and the negotiations with the Seaford teachers’ union on a wage freeze in 2012-13, which saved teaching positions and preserved the eight-period day at the middle school.

Stark, our second choice, is a lifelong Seaford resident who went through the district as a student. A 1992 Seaford High School graduate, she said she would focus on the lack of state funding and the growth of state mandates if elected. She has been an active member of the Seaford Harbor PTA, sitting on its executive board as school board representative.

Our endorsements are no slight to Patrick Martz, who is just 23 years old and clearly has a bright future. A 2008 Seaford High graduate, he is an Eagle Scout and a lifetime member of the Seaford Historical Society. Martz goes to a variety of community meetings each month, and we’re confident that we’ll be hearing much more from him in the years to come.
