Fire strikes Levitt home

Posted

A fire struck a Springtime Lane home the evening of Nov. 16. No one was home at the time and the fire caused considerable smoke and water damage throughout.

The Wantagh Fire Department responded to the blaze in Levittown, a few blocks north of MacArthur High School, at about 9:20 p.m. Arriving firefighters found a heavy smoke condition and advanced a hose line into the second floor. They were hampered when they found a portion of the floor burnt away. Fire was spreading between the floor and first floor ceiling and into the knee wall. A second hose was brought into the first floor as a backup as the ceilings were pulled from below.

Firefighters made a search of the home found a pet rabbit which was removed to safety. Once the fire was exposed it was quickly brought under control.

A Nassau County Fire Marshal determined that an unattended candle was the cause. No injuries were reported.
