Helpful numbers for county, TOH reisdents

While steady work is being made on roadways across Nassau County and the Town of Hempstead, and people dig their way out of the year’s first major snowstorm, those in need of assistance or with questions can call the following numbers:

Town of Hempstead residents can call (516) 489-6000 for general inquiries and assistance. The numbers serves as Supervisor Kate Murray’s helpline. After regular business hours, callers can reach the Department of Public Safety at (516) 538-1900.

Also, residents with questions or concerns involving plowing and other snow-related issues can call the Highway Department at (516) 489-5000 ext. 3471.

Nassau County opened Red Cross-operated emergency shelters in Massapequa Park, Glen Cove and Port Washington on Thursday night, but there were no overnight occupants and the shelters have since closed.

County residents with questions and non-life-threatening emergencies should call (888) 684-4274.

The Office of Emergency Management is staffed at (516) 573-0636.

Snow-related questions and concerns can be fielded by the Department of Public Works at (516) 571-9600.
