Levittown PTA group presents recommendations

Posted

Parents weighed on the developing Levittown budget last week, as Laura Brown spoke on behalf of the PTA Advisory Council at the March 11 Board of Education.

Topping the wish list of parents, she said, are improvements to the buildings and grounds. She said there are concerns over the maintenance of the non-turf fields throughout the district. Parents also want to the district to implement a plan to replaced the fogged windows at several schools.

There is a desire for an expansion to Northside Elementary School to add an all-purpose room, and for renovations to the MacArthur High School auditorium. New risers for the music program at the two high schools are also needed, Brown said.

Additionally, she said traffic studies are needed at each of the district’s 10 schools to address safety issues.

She said parents would like an elementary school technology added to teach basic computer skills, such as keyboarding and programs like Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint.

Brown said parents are supportive of the idea of creating an outdoor learning center, which is now slated for the Levittown Memorial Education Center after initially being proposed for the Laurel Lane property in the north end of the district. They are also glad the district will be giving each elementary school $5,000 to add more clubs.
