Miss Wantagh Court seeking women of distinction

The Miss Wantagh Court is preparing for the third annual Women of Wantagh event. The 2017 WOW will be celebrated on March 27 at 7 p.m.

The WOW program commemorates Women’s History Month. Members of the court said that they are looking forward to recognizing local, inspirational women who have made a great impact on the community.

“This event, which was started by Miss Wantagh 2014, Kayla Knight, let the community know that we have a lot of women in our town that selflessly give of themselves and we are happy to recognize their contributions,” Coordinator Ella Stevens said. “Through this recognition, we hope that others will want to contribute to the betterment of the community or to possibly join those that are doing so already.”

The Miss Wantagh Court is asking community members to nominate women who have made their mark on Wantagh. Nomination letters should include the nominee’s name and reasons why that individual is deserving of the WOW honor.

Letters should be submitted by email to misswantagh@optonline.net or to 2415 Bayview Ave., Wantagh, N.Y., 11793, Attn: Ella Stevens. Nominations are due by March 20.

After the Miss Wantagh Court reviews all of the submissions, they will select six women to be honored at a ceremony at Wantagh Elementary School. The event will include a musical tribute to Wantagh, a presentation of the awards, refreshments and feature a few guest appearances from members of Miss Wantagh’s past.

“The Miss Wantagh Court is eager to recognize and honor exceptional women, who through their efforts, have made our town better, women who may not have been recognized for these efforts in the past,” Miss Wantagh Emma Carey said.  “While the town and county will be honoring women from the Town of Hempstead and Nassau County during this month, Wantagh will be honoring its own, and as the current Miss Wantagh, I am thrilled to be able to not only celebrate the Women of Wantagh but to show how much we appreciate them.”

New York State Assemblyman David McDonough, Nassau County Legislator Steve Rhoads and Hempstead Town Councilwoman Erin King Sweeney have been invited to attend the WOW event.
