Robbery averted at Wantagh TD Bank

Nassau County Police are seeking the man who attempted to rob a TD Bank in Wantagh on Wednesday. The robbery was thwarted by the branch manager.

According to police, an unknown man entered the bank at the corner of Sunrise Highway and Wantagh Avenue on Jan. 20 at 2:15 p.m. Police say that he had a long-bladed knife with a black handle visible in his bag. When the man was approached by the manager, he fled the scene with the knife, leaving the bag behind.

He was seen entering a white Ford Explorer with its license plates covered with yellow paper. The vehicle fled southbound on Wantagh Avenue.

No one was injured. There were seven employees in the bank at the time, but no other customers. The suspect is described as a white male, 6-foot tall with a thin build in his late 20s, soft brown hair wearing a black jacket, gray sweatpants, white sneakers and a ski mask.
