Levittown man with dangerous reptiles arrested in Seaford

A Levittown man was arrested in Seaford on September 10, as part of a “dangerous animals investigation,” when police removed three Gila Monsters, one alligator, two Caiman and five Bearded lizards from his car. Also recovered from the car were a handgun and substances that police believe to be steroids.

According to police, Gila Monsters, a venomous lizard, are illegal to possess in New York.

Anthony Cammarata, 27, was arrested without incident on Parkside Drive in Seaford at 4:55 p.m., according to Nassau County Police.

The Nassau County Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Nassau County District Attorney’s investigators and New York States Environmental Conservation State Police officers were conducting a joint “dangerous animals investigation,” according to the police report.

While investigating, officers responded to a residence on Gilling Road in Seaford? where a 2002 Lincoln was observed backing into a driveway. Officers observed a Gila Monster in the vehicle which is illegal to possess in New York, the report stated.

Cammarata is charged with five counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the seventh degree, four counts of Possessing Dangerous Animals, two counts of Unlawful Possession of a Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device and Protection of the Public from Attack by Wild Animals and Reptiles. He was arraigned on Tuesday, September 11.
