Long Beach High School has postponed its Homecoming events and has moved the football game against the Sewanhaka Indians to Saturday, Sept. 21, at 2 p.m., according to Long Beach Athletic Director Arnie Epstein.

The decision on Tuesday came a day after a 16-year-old Oceanside student died from injuries he suffered in a stabbing during a fight at a strip mall in Oceanside. Police identified the victim as Khaseen Morris, a junior at Oceanside High School.

Long Beach Schools Superintendent Jennifer Gallagher released a statement on Tuesday morning.

“We are aware of the incident in Oceanside yesterday, and our crisis teams are providing support to students who need it,” she said. “We also have increased security and police presence around our buildings and are proceeding with a normal day at our high school. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to our administrative team.”

Police are still investigating the incident and searching for suspects. They are asking anyone with information to contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at (800) 244-TIPS. All callers will remain confidential.

Police told reporters on Monday that the brawl involved mostly students from a few different high schools, but did not provide further details. Witnesses at the scene said that some of the teens involved in the fight are from Long Beach.
