An off-duty NYPD sergeant allegedly shot a man outside his home in Seaford just past midnight on Friday, Oct. 25.

A dispute allegedly arose outside near the 34-year-old sergeant’s home on Stirrup Path at approximately 12:05 a.m. The off-duty officer allegedly told the investigation unit that he saw the man with a bat in his hand.

The dispute between the 29-year-old man and the off-duty sergeant resulted in the sergeant allegedly shooting the man, who was found by police just a few houses down Stirrup Path. The man who was shot is alleged to remain in stable condition, as the wound is non-life threatening.

Emily Williams, 22, who lives on Stirrup Path, said she woke up around midnight after hearing a commotion.

"I thought it was teenagers talking at first, until I really started to listen, Williams said. "Then I heard, 'Sir, please help me, I've been shot,' and my heart dropped."

Williams, who lives near the Locust Avenue side of the street, said she initially looked out of her window closest to the Locust side. She then ran over to the window facing the Woodward side and thought she saw two people.

"I think I saw a figure talking to someone else just around the bend, but I couldn't make out who it was," Williams said.

Williams confirmed that police were on the scene promptly, and a helicopter began to circle above roughly 15 minutes after the police arrived.

It is not clear whether or not the man shot was a Seaford resident, or what he was doing in the area. The nature of the dispute was also uncear. Police continue to investigate.
