Taylor Capicchioni, of Levittown, received the Youth Recognition Award last month. The teen is a volunteer for the Wantagh Levittown Volunteer Ambulance Corps — an EMS organization that was founded in 1956 to help residents in dire situations.

As vice president of the Cadet Corps, Capicchioni assists the president with every day tasks, to expanding the corps and preparing for its future. Capicchioni also heads the Membership Committee, is captain of the drill team and is a member of the fundraising and scrapbook committees.

The Youth Recognition Award is an annual honor given by the Levittown Community Council to a high school student in the Levittown School District and whose non-monetary contributions to a council member organization go above and beyond the usual. The LCC is a civic organization that aims to “bring pride and unity” to the community. The group’s members live in the Island Trees and Levittown school districts. The Levittown District takes in parts of north Wantagh and Seaford.

WLVAC Vice President Irene Sabatasso nominated Capicchioni for the award. On the application, Sabatasso wrote, “Taylor’s leadership skills have truly shined in the past year … she is an exceptional, smart, hard-working and motivated Levittown volunteer.”

A reception took place at the Council’s meeting at the Levittown Public Library. Members of Capicchioni’s family, friends and members from various community organizations and local elected officials attended the celebration.
