Long Island Festival of Trees kicks off the holiday season

All's a twinkle at the Cradle of Aviation Museum

The holiday season comes into focus now and the glittery signs are all around. Museum Row in Garden City is among the spots filled with holiday spirit this weekend, where the Festival of Trees is firmly rooted for its three-day extravaganza, Friday through Sunday, Nov. 27-29.
This popular event at the Cradle of Aviation Museum — now in its 26th year — brings together artisans, local entertainers, volunteers and the community to celebrate the season. Everyone comes together to share in the festival spirit and support the United Cerebral Palsy Association of Nassau County, the beneficiary of the event.
As always, the trees command attention through the weekend’s festivities. The display of nearly 40 6 ½-foot trees and hundreds of 2-foot mini-trees commands attention from the moment visitors step into the museum’s grand atrium. Each is adorned with a unique theme, creatively decorated by designers and community groups. Among the highlights, Chief Equipment of Freeport is contributing a “John Deere” themed tree complete with kid-size John Deere ride-on equipment.
Also gaze upon the festively adorned “Sweet 16” tree contributed by the Long Island Children’s Museum, which features ornaments designed to look like popular sweet treats, made by kids visiting the museum in celebration of the New Year 2016; and “Frosty the Snowman,” by the Theresa Academy of Performing Arts in Lido Beach, created with the help of young artists who participate in their programs for students with special needs, among the many trees on display.
