Give the gift of yourself this holiday season

There has been a lot of progress made in the rebuilding efforts since Hurricane Sandy hit Long Island in late October, but there is still work to be done. The Long Island Volunteer Center is in need of volunteers to help those impacted by the storm.

Volunteers are needed to clean debris from homes, conduct needs assessments and work at supply and donation distribution centers. No special skills are needed and training will be provided. If you are over the age of 18 and interested in making a difference, visit www.longislandvolunteercenter.org or call (516)-564-5482 to see how you can get involved and help those still struggling to recover this holiday season.

As of December 20, the Long Island Volunteer Center had pre-registered 2,653 individuals and, based on specific requests from partner agencies, have referred volunteers to support Red Cross shelters, pet shelters, food rescue and food bank agencies such as Island Harvest and Long Island Cares-The Harry Chapin Food Bank, Salvation Army donation sites, and faith-based and disaster groups doing debris cleanups in affected communities including NECHAMA and All Hands volunteers.
