Police add 7 charges to inmate's rap sheet
A Roosevelt man arrested for a West Hempstead robbery in 2014 was charged in connection with an additional five robberies and two attempts on Thursday that took place between May and September 2014 in West Hempstead, Merrick, Elmont, Mineola and Bethpage.
Reginald G. Tucker, 40, of Rose Avenue in Roosevelt, who has been in jail for a year and a half, was connected to the additional crimes after detectives analyzed tips they received from the public prior to his 2014 arrest. Detective Lieutenant Ken Catalini said that the investigation is ongoing, and that Tucker may be connected to four additional robberies, but did not provide further information.
Acting Police Commissioner Thomas Krumpter explained that Tucker pled guilty to all seven crimes on March 9 (a total theft of $54,000), but that the law requires that he be fingerprinted and documented for each subsequent robbery — which is why his official arrest was delayed to March 24.
“In this particular case we received information that was instrumental that identified this subject as the subject that was involved in these robberies based on the crime stoppers posting,” Acting Police Commissioner Thomas Krumpter said.
Tucker entered the establishments wearing a disguise, and handed notes to tellers demanding money. Police said he was described as being “calm and professional,” and was in and out of the bank quickly.
Although Tucker’s DNA was in the system from crimes prior to 2014, police said this was not a contributing factor to the investigation. Tucker is scheduled to be sentenced on April 18.
