State Senator Todd Kaminsky speaks with constituents

In an effort to make himself more accessible to his constituents in the Five Towns, State Sen. Todd Kaminsky (D-Long Beach) met with residents, answered questions and discussed issues outside Gourmet Glatt in Cedarhurst last Thursday for about two hours.

Kaminsky said people are not always able to visit his office in Rockville Centre as they may be working, taking care of their families or have limited access to transportation. “We try to be out in the community letting people know we’re here to help,” he said.

Several men and women stopped to speak with Kaminsky about “quality of life issues,” “state policy issues” and “state of the community,” he said, “You learn a ton that way.”

“He’s trying to reach out to the community,” a shopper at Gourmet Glatt who asked to not be identified said. Another Gourmet Glatt shopper said it was “heroic” of him to be out on a hot day to talk with people about their concerns.
Less than a week later, Kaminsky visited the Long Beach boardwalk to set up a mobile office and meet with constituents at Edwards Boulevard from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday.

He will also host Smart Seniors, an event to help senior citizens learn about scams and how to protect themselves on Tuesday, Aug. 9 at 11 a.m. at the Sandel Senior Center at 50 South Park Ave. in Rockville Centre.
