Re-elect Muscarella in 8th Legislative District

Incumbent Vincent Muscarella gets our endorsement in Nassau’s 8th Legislative District.

Muscarella, a Republican, has always been quick to address the needs of his constituents, as we’ve heard from residents in Franklin Square and West Hempstead. He has been a force behind many community efforts, and has been a regular presence at civic association meetings.

Longtime county residents will remember Muscarella’s efforts in getting a smoking ban passed. He is currently focusing on the county’s budget, which he says is his No. 1 priority. He believes that one of his most important roles is to help keep Nassau’s finances under control by doing away with unnecessary spending and figuring out to how raise tax revenue, something the county desperately needs.

Despite having great name recognition across the county, Muscarella insists he’s content to continue serving the people as a legislator, and is not seeking higher office. That gives him an edge in political clout, and makes it easier for him to get things done.

His challenger, Carl Gerrato, has some interesting ideas about lowering taxes and making the commuter parking situation better for residents of southwestern Nassau, and we admire the passion he has for improving life in communities in the 8th District. But Muscarella’s experience in office, his focus on tackling Nassau’s budget and his familiarity with, and influence in, county government make him a better choice for voters on Tuesday.
