Family Fun

Monster Jam
Monster trucks reach astonishing heights when Monster Jam roars into Nassau Coliseum for another round of non-stop action. The spectacle features some of the most popular monster trucks ever assembled – with the legendary Grave Digger topping that list. Joining that behemoth are the other fan favorite mega-trucks on the circuit, including El Toro Loco, Bounty Hunter and Scarlet Bandit. Monster truck fans will watch as these mega-trucks compete in an array of enthralling competitions, including racing and freestyle events, along with a “Wheelie” contest, during the action-packed two-hour show. Standing at 12 feet tall and about 12 feet wide, these trucks sit atop 66-inch tall tires and can fly up to 35 feet in the air. As an added attraction, the popular Pit Party pre-show gives everyone a chance to get a view of the trucks up-close and meet the drivers of the 10,000-pound custom-designed machines.
Friday, Jan. 25, 7:30 p.m., with Pit Party, 5:30-6:30 p.m.; Saturday, Jan. 26, 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., with Pit Party, 11 a.m.-2 p.m.; Sunday, Jan. 27, 2 p.m. $30-$75, with seats starting at $15 for kids. Nassau Coliseum, Uniondale. (800) 745-3000 or www.ticketmaster.com.

Music!
Imagine a concert not defined as classical, jazz, pop or anything else. That is the imaginative and diverse performance awaiting those in the audience when the celebrated Finnish duo of violinist Jaakko Kuusisto and pianist Iiro Rantala bring their musical creativity to the Madison Theatre. Both Kuusisto and Rantala cross musical genres in this relaxed and surprising evening. Kuusisto, who is a conductor and composer, in addition to his acclaimed career as a violinist and Rantala, who is best known as the founder and pianist of Trio Toykeat, Finland’s most famous jazz group, have come together for a concert that combines their dynamic talents in an exciting, unusual form. It’s a concert that is full of surprises with a program that will enthrall and delight the audience.
Saturday, Jan. 26, 8 p.m. $20-$35. Madison Theatre, Molloy College, 1000 Hempstead Ave., Rockville Centre. (516) 678-5000 ext. 7715 or
