The Rockville Centre Board of Education introduced the South Side High School student government officials and class presidents during its board meeting on Oct. 19, while also recognizing the National Merit Scholarship semifinalists and commended students.

The officers of the student government include president Samantha Horowitz, first vice president Kevin Schnee, second vice president Allison Mullooly, and treasurer Jessica Mauro.

This year’s elected class presidents were senior Paulina Kenny, junior Julia Lanzillotta, sophomore Lauren Thomas and freshman Savanna May.

Of the 1.6 million junior students who took the PSAT exam nationally last October, the top three percent of the country are recognized as National Merit Scholarship commended students, based on their raw scores. Of that top three percent, the top one percent are recognized as National Merit Scholarship semifinalists.

The commended students from South Side included Liam Chung, Annie Ford, James Ryan, Erin Sherlock and Thomas York. Matthew Barrett and Brandon Stein were both honored as semifinalists.
