Theodore Roosevelt Sanctuary’s “Eggstravaganza”
Theodore Roosevelt Sanctuary’s grounds are strewn with colorful eggs every spring at its annual Egg-Stravaganza event. Many dozens of families will flock to the preserve’s nature trails to search for hidden eggs, on Saturday, April 19. Along the way, visitors can enjoy the sights and sounds of early spring: colorful blooms from native trees and flowers, birds singing, and wildlife scurrying in the sunshine.
  Before heading out on the trails, kids create a colorful, decorative handmade basket in which to collect the eggs that are found. There’s also a friendly egg-themed relay competition (ages 4-10 only) and a live showing of the sanctuary’s resident egg-laying animal ambassadors.

Planting Fields Arboretum’s Arbor Day Festival
Oyster Bay’s Planting Fields Aboretum celebrates the preservation of trees and their importance to our world at its annual festival next weekend. The more than 4,000 trees in the state park provide a fitting backdrop to the many exhibits and presentations, April 26-27, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. both days.
Since 1987, Planting Fields has commemorated national Arbor Day with its family festival. This year’s celebration features new children’s activities, tree climbing, a “mutts gone nuts” variety show, plant clinics, and tree plantings with Smokey Bear in which everyone can participate, along with seedling give-aways and self-guided tours of that grand estate, Coe Hall.
There’s always something for everyone: Theodore Roosevelt Sanctuary and Audubon Center offers hands-on wildlife programs; a family concert and storytelling, with Strummin’ and Drummin’; nature crafts; visits from animal rescue organizations, and much more.
