Summertime in District 13

Posted

District 13’s summer recreation program is in full swing, and student enrollment is slightly up this year. The program features a new kindergarten readiness program designed to prepare incoming children for school life.

“This is something totally different than what I’m used to,” said Gerard Antoine, assistant superintendent for business, who began working in the district in December. “These kids are having fun and getting situated.”

The readiness program gives students the opportunity to make friends and adjust to the new environment and their teachers.

Summer recreation includes daily activities like sports, art, dance and daily literacy work like story time, poetry and songs. District-wide enrollment is at 277 students this year, and school officials hope to see that number increase in the coming years.
