Winthrop-University Hospital offers free Bladder Cancer Awareness Day program

Posted

Bladder cancer is the sixth most commonly diagnosed cancer in the United States. Smoking increases a person’s chance of developing bladder cancer. Although men are diagnosed more frequently, women are generally diagnosed at a later stage.

To learn more about bladder cancer, the public is invited to attend a free educational program, Bladder Cancer Awareness Day, at Winthrop-University Hospital on May 9, from 9 a.m. to noon. It will be held in the Winthrop Research and Academic Center, 101 Mineola Blvd., Mineola.

Speakers Aaron Katz, chairman of the urology department; Louis Faiella and Jeffrey Schiff, attending urologists; Jonathan Haas, chief of the division of radiation oncology; and Alice Zervoudakis, an attending oncologist, will discuss risk factors, causes and treatment options. A question-and-answer period is included.

Literature and educational materials will be provided. Breakfast and a light lunch will be served. To register or to learn more information, call Kate Owens (516) 664-2316, or contact her by e-mail at kowens@winthrop.org.
