On Jan. 10, several NYPD officers and city officials joined together at the Central Park Precinct in New York City to honor Malvernite and NYPD Detective Steven McDonald. On the first anniversary of his death, the precinct unveiled a plaque in his honor.

“It has been one year since we have lost our friend and true hero Detective Steven McDonald,” said State Sen. Todd Kaminsky on Twitter. “We extend our prayers and heartfelt thoughts to his family, and everyday we draw inspiration from his example and unparalleled heart.”

McDonald, 59, died from a heart attack. McDonald’s wife, Malverne Mayor Patti Ann McDonald and their son, NYPD Sergeant Conor McDonald, attended the ceremony to reflect on his legacy.
