Family Literacy Night at West Hempstead High School

The West Hempstead School District welcomed students and their families to its Family Literacy Night at West Hempstead High School last month. The annual event serves to strengthen the school-community connection while encouraging literacy amid a myriad of games and activities.

During the evening celebration, guests filled the cafeteria and gymnasium to participate in activities and win prizes. In the cafeteria, students and families painted with watercolors, built structures out of Legos, had their faces painted and created colorful splatter paint murals using spin painting machines.

Children could also take home books from the large collection of gently used books that lined the tables. In the gymnasium, guests viewed a fairy tale performance of “Little Red Riding Hood” staged by West Hempstead High School’s Drama Club, played word games and participated in read alouds.
