A thrilling homecoming game at West Hempstead High School on Sept. 21 ended with a Rams victory as they defeated the Oyster Bay Baymen 38-36.

Homecoming festivities began with a parade from Chestnut Street School to the high school featuring Board of Education trustees and administrators, cheerleaders, class banners, the marching band, middle school and high school athletes, youth sports leagues and scouting units, elementary school PTAs, and the West Hempstead and Lakeview fire departments.

At the high school, the Key Club kicked off its Thanksgiving food drive with its Stuff the Bus campaign. Community members were encouraged to drop off nonperishable food items or monetary donations to help support 50 families in the community.

Once the varsity football game got underway, fans filled the bleachers and lined the fence to cheer the Rams on to victory. Halftime featured a performance by the cheerleaders and the introduction of members of the 1979 conference championship football team. Mr. and Mrs. West Hempstead, Andrew Quiroga and Kristine Romero, were also escorted to the field by the Ram mascot.
