Blankets for veterans
Show your appreciation for veterans in the community with a community service project for teens at the West Hempstead Public Library on Thursday, Nov. 8, from 7 to 8 p.m. Join Mrs. Kathy to create a blanket for veterans, just in time for Veteran’s Day. Chess lessons with Chess Nuts of L.I.

You’re never too young to learn how to play chess. Stop by the Malverne Public Library on Wednesday, Nov. 14, from 7 to 8 p.m. for chess lessons from the Long Island Chess Nuts. Beers for all seasons
There are plenty of brews to sample at the popular beer festival, the Long Island Great Beer Expo, at Nassau Coliseum, Saturday, Nov. 10. The biggest names in brewing join in on the festivities, along with local favorites and some of the newest to hit the craft brew scene. The pay-one-price general admission ticket includes all beer sampling and a souvenir tasting cup. Art explorations at Hofstra University
Set out with the kids on an “Artful Adventure,” on Saturday, Nov. 10, 11:30 a.m.- 1 p.m. at Hofstra’s museum. Museum educators will lead participants (ages 5-10) in a discussion about art and then guide visitors in a hands-on art project. The kids, ages 5-10, can “Play Like Picasso,” by viewing artworks by artists who experimented with new ways to see the world. Then, like Picasso, participants can experiment on their own.
