Shortly after the Police Benevolent Association said dozens of police vehicles were falling apart, Nassau County Executive Laura Curran, along with the Westchester County Executive George Latimer, and Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone shared a buying plan for police vehicles.
The Shared Services initiative, across the three counties, allows for the counties’ towns and villages to cooperatively purchase police vehicles at a discounted rate. The strategy was to combine aggregate purchasing power into a single request for bids, in order to leverage better pricing.
“I want to thank County Executives Bellone and Latimer for engaging in this successful joint procurement bid for law enforcement vehicles that will save money while improving public safety for our residents,” said Curran.
Melissa Gallucci, Nassau County’s Commissioner of Shared Services said the county estimates a purchase of 110 vehicles off the cooperative law enforcement vehicle award, approximately 81 for the County and 30 for municipalities.
The purchases will be largely for the 2020 Ford Police Interceptor with discounts of 15 percent off MSRP on the base vehicle and 46 percent off aftermarket items. Savings per vehicle run from 15 percent to 27 percent off MSRP depending on the model ordered.
