Police reported that a 3-year-old girl was found unresponsive at Grace Lutheran Church and School last Friday.

Isabella Hagenlocher was taking a nap at the school's day care, but when workers found that she was not breathing, she was transported to NYU Winthrop Hospital in Mineola by the Malverne Police Department in critical condition. She died on Monday.

"This is tragic for all of here at Grace Lutheran School community," said the Rev. David Anglada, the church's pastor. "We are hurting as a staff, and we're at a loss for words. The entire school community is devastated."

Anglada said that when Isabella was found unresponsive last Friday, workers alerted the principal, Wanda Walters, who was next door in a classroom reading a story to children. That's when she alerted the school's medical staff, who then called the police.

The church will hold a service in remembrance of Isabella on Sunday at 9:15 a.m.

The investigation is ongoing, according to police.
