Lenox Elementary School third grader Ameera Khan has been named one of five national winners in Scholastic’s Dragon Masters Contest, based on the book series by Tracey West.
Ameera’s fiction story submission, “Jewel of the Sand Dragon”, demonstrated a deep understanding of the text and showcased her ability to craft a well-structured and engaging narrative. Scholastic received hundreds of entries for each of its magazine contests, with winning pieces required to reflect critical reading skills through a challenging writing task. The publishing company also noted that winners exemplify a commitment to excellence, highlighting the impact of educators like her teacher, Carolyn McGillicuddy.
Winners received a personalized letter of recognition and a copy of “The Epic Guide to Dragon Masters” by Tracey West.
“Ameera’s achievement is a beautiful reminder of the joy that comes from reading, writing, and imagination,” Lenox Elementary School Principal Sheilah Jefferson-Isaac said. “We are so proud of her and grateful for the teachers who nurture a love of learning every day.”
