Baldwin resident Sumayya Spann has earned the salutatorian award for the graduating class of 2023 at Long Island Lutheran Middle and High School in Brookville, NY.
Spann achieved an impressive GPA of 101.34. She also participated in several co-curricular activities, including the National Honor Society, the LuHixChange, and Varsity Girls Soccer. She was also the founding member of LuHi’s Model UN club.
Spann has received numerous awards and honors, including the Model U.N. Co-Curricular Award, Kalman I. Nulman Scholarship for Literature, and the AP Scholar with Distinction Award. She is a talented student and a leader in her school, having served as the Student Body President and Co-Captain of the Varsity Girls Soccer team.
In addition to her academic achievements, Spann has also been active in community service. She volunteered at the Westbury United Methodist Church food pantry and participated in Thanksgiving Community Meal Distribution, among other activities.
Spann plans to pursue a double-major in LLS — Law, Letters, and Society — and Computer Science, with a minor in Korean, at the University of Chicago. Long Island Lutheran Middle and High School congratulated Spann on her remarkable achievements and wishes her continued success in her future endeavors. She has left a lasting impact and will undoubtedly continue to do so in the future.
