After a tight race, Judy Griffin has won a second term representing Assembly District 21.

Griffin, a Democrat from Rockville Centre, defeated Republican challenger Patricia Canzoneri-Fitzpatrick, former Malverne deputy mayor and village trustee.

All mail-in and absentee ballots were counted as of Nov. 17.

Griffin garnered 36,132 votes while Canzoneri-Fitzpatrick garnered 31,513, according to the Nassau County Board of Elections unofficial results.

“I am honored to have been re-elected by the constituents of A.D. 21,” Griffin said in a statement. “I have worked diligently to represent this district, provide a voice to all and make a positive impact. I will proudly continue to serve and advocate for this district with integrity and dedication and am grateful for the vote of confidence from A.D. 21 and the support of so many who, together, helped me be victorious. This victory is a win for all of us!”

“After all of the absentee ballots have been opened and counted in New York’s 21st Assembly District, I am proud to congratulate Assemblywoman Judy Griffin on her well-deserved re-election,” said Jay Jacobs, chairman of the New York State Democrats and Nassau County Democratic Committee. ”From securing record school aid to providing millions of dollars to local municipalities and non-profit organizations, the voters of Assembly District 21 made the right decision. Assemblywoman Griffin will continue to fight for her district’s needs as residents and small businesses battle Covid-19, and I look forward to the great work that she will be able to produce in her second term.”
