Young students write Valentine’s letters for Veterans

Hempstead Town Councilman Chris Carini and Town Clerk Kate Murray collected hundreds of Valentine’s Day letters from students at three Baldwin elementary schools this month.

Carini and Murray joined students at to collect hundreds of letters for Valentine’s for Veterans — a Town of Hempstead program, which partners with local schools to give their students the opportunity to write Valentine’s Day letters and deliver them to local veterans groups like Veteran’s of Foreign Wars and the American Legion —along with Principal Nahiva Paz, Assistant Principal Melanie Odone and Kimberly Zeiko, a kindergarten teacher, at Steele Elementary School on Feb. 3.

Carini and Murray later visited Plaza Elementary School on Feb. 3, and Carini stopped by Lenox Elementary School on Feb. 6 to collect more Valentine’s Day letters from their students.
