This summer we celebrate our Summer Reading topic, A Universe of Stories. This series recognizes the 50th Anniversary of the Moon Landing and NASA’s accomplishments. The East Meadow Public Library is hosting this event, focusing on the film War of the Worlds, at the East Meadow Benevolent Hall at 170 Maple Ave., on Sept. 13 at 1 p.m. H.G. Wells’ classic novel is brought to life in this tale of alien invasion. The residents of a small town in California are excited when a flaming meteor lands in the hills. Their joy is tempered somewhat when they discover that it has passengers who are not very friendly. Rated: Passed. Running Time: 1 hr. 52 min.

Reiki class

The East Meadow Public Library is hosting a reiki class on Sept. 16, from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Reiki is a Japanese technique for reducing stress and promotes healing.

Instructor Preeti is leading this session at the East Meadow Jewish Center at 1400 Prospect Ave, East Meadow. Wear comfortabe clothing.

Soundview Pregnancy Services Gold Outing

East Meadow’s Soundview Pregnancy Services is hosting its annual golf outing, with a new course for 2019, on Sept. 17 at Stonebridge Golf Links and Country Club, at 2000 Raynors Way in Smithtown. Enjoy a barbecue lunch, golf all afternoon and end the day with a cocktail reception featuring hors d'oeurves, an open bar, buffet dinner, raffle prizes and a presentation about Soundview Pregnancy Services. The cost is $250 per person or $850 for a group of four. There will be a 1p.m. shotgun start. To attend the dinner alone, the cost is $100 per person or $150 for two people.
