Rockville Centre man attacked police in Hewlett

After responding to a call on Sept. 7 at 9:40 a.m., at 1470 Hewlett Ave., in Hewlett, for a man allegedly causing a disturbance, 4th Precinct police officers tried to restrain the man who did not adhere to police commands and resisted arrest, police said.

Police then arrested Matthew Berman, 24, of North Village Avenue, Rockville Centre.

Officers sustained injuries as Berman was said to be, “violent and combative while resisting arrest.” One officer was taken to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries. Berman was taken to a local hospital for a medical evaluation.

He is charged with second-degree assault. Berman will be arraigned when when medically practical, police said.
