Students at John Lewis Childs School participated in the school’s annual “toy mountain” event on Dec. 17 by providing brand new toys to be donated to needy families and children.

Over 20 bags of toys were collected by the end of the day and were later picked up by representatives from the Hance Family Foundation, who were to distribute the toys to need families and children. The toy giveaway was moderated by the student council as well as Julia Lafferty, a teacher at the school, according to a statement released by the Floral Park-Bellerose Union Free School District

The event was held “in honor of the season of giving and to spark holiday spirit,” the district said in the statement.
