A Far Rockaway woman was arrested in Lawrence for driving while intoxicated and endangering the life of a child at 6 p.m. on Feb. 9, according to Nassau police.

Rachael Hess, 44, of Lanett Avenue, was headed south driving a 2018 Chevrolet Traverse on Rockaway Turnpike near Broadway, when she hit a black Honda HRV that forced the driver, a 37-year-old man, to strike a gray Jeep driven by a man, 46, that stopped at a traffic signal, police said.

After the subsequent investigation, Hess was taken into custody. The boy, 10, who was her passenger, was released to a family member who responded to the accident scene. The Chevrolet Traverse was impounded.

Hess was also charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child under 16, which is called Leandra’s Law, which prohibits a person from driving a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs with a child 15 tears or younger as a passenger.

Hess was released and the court issued a temporary order of protection. She is being represented by Alan Gerson. Her next court  is March 9 at First District Court in Hempstead.
