A baseball bat wielding man allegedly assaulted a store employee after the alleged theft of a six-pack of beer from the Season Express on Doughty Boulevard in Lawrence at 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 28, police said.

Miguel Torres, 18, of Gerson Street in Far Rockaway, took the six-pack from the store shelf and left without paying, according to police. Confronted by a store employee, Torres allegedly hit the man, 24, on the arm with the bat, and then fled. The blow to the employee’s arm resulted in severe pain and swelling, police said.

After 911 was called, police found Torres a brief time later in the parking lot of the Inwood Long Island Rail Road station. After the subsequent investigation, he was arrested.

Torres is charged with robbery first-degree, assault second-degree and criminal possession of a weapon fourth-degree. His next court date is Oct. 19. The Legal Aid Society of Nassau County is representing Torres.
