Four people tried to subdue a Far Rockaway man who allegedly slashed one of them after an alleged attempted robbery in Inwood on March 10, Nassau police said.

Around 11 p.m., police responded to a 911 call for a burglary in progress. When the Fourth Precinct officers got there they found a man and three other people physically struggling with Miguel Torres, 18, of Gerson Court. Police then arrested Torres.

Through the subsequent investigation, police uncovered that Torres allegedly approached one of the four at the intersection of Bayview Avenue and Sheridan Boulevard, demanded his wallet and displayed a utility knife. The man refused and returned to his Bayview Avenue home.

According to police, Torres followed him and physically forced his way into the home. “A struggle ensued once inside the home and [Torres] slashed the victim in the left hand and forearm with the blue folding utility knife, and did bite a chunk of flesh from his left cheek,” police stated in a news release. The man was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Torres is charged with first-degree assault, first-degree burglary, two counts of first-degree robbery, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon and second-degree menacing. He is to be arraigned in Mineola on March 11.
